When the Blues Came to Town...
Last night I spent a few hours with a colleague from another club. It was one of those conversations that reminds you why so many of us stay involved in football.
As we talked, my mind drifted back to when Chelsea Football Club came to Houston.
Of course, it was exciting. One of the biggest clubs in the world, coaches from Cobham, different ideas, different voices, different ways of seeing the game.
But as I looked back through these photos, I realised that wasn't the part I remembered most.
I remembered the smiles. The conversations. The players laughing between sessions. The younger kids looking up to the older ones. The excitement of putting on a Chelsea bib for the first time.
Moments that reminded us all that, before they're footballers, they're kids.
Those experiences matter.
Not because they're flashy or because they look good on social media, but because they create memories. They spark curiosity. They inspire dreams. They remind young players that football can take them places—on the field, around the world, and into friendships they'll remember long after the scores have been forgotten.
That's something we've always believed at Houston Bluebonnets.
Great coaching matters. Winning matters. Development matters.
But creating experiences that anchor young people to the game—for the right reasons—matters just as much.
Those are the moments they carry with them. Those are the moments that make them fall in love with football.
And perhaps those are the moments they'll one day tell their own children about.
We're incredibly grateful to Chelsea FC for sharing that experience with our players, and we're excited that another opportunity awaits in March 2027.
Because football is about so much more than ninety minutes.
It's about connection.
Growing Players. Growing People. Growing Together.
