Bluebonnets End Run at National Sweet 16

July 15th 2018

Back to Back Conference Champions the TTi Bluebonnets fell on Saturday to eventual Regional Champions, the Chicago Red Stars.

The match, marred by poor officiating, left the Bluebonnets reeling in a 3-0 deficit at half time due to a poor decision in the final moments allowing the third goal moments before the break.

The first two goals came from organized counter attacks from the Windy City that encouraged a lull in play from he possession dominant Bluebonnets. Standout performances in the midfield from Amy Yang and Marlyn Campa. With Anna Smalley hitting the post from the outstanding Chicago goalkeeper.

Undeterred by the daunting scoreline, the Bluebonnets pushed int he second half looking for goals early. Unable to find the net until the 70th minute through a Jessica Brooksby strike inside the area, the Bluebonnets still looked for their second goal.

A player down after Brianna Woodall received her second yellow card the Red Stars looked dangerous on the break against a depleted TTi team.

In the 90th minute a well structured set piece from the Red Stars saw them put the match to bed.

"Ultimately we have to take chances when presented" said Lee Cullip, stand in coach for the evening "we were good in possession and played consistently from he back throughout the conference and play off play, which was a mind set. We wanted to play good football. I am proud of what has been achieved again this year and I look forward to seeing where these players end up in the future" Cullip concluded".

The TTi Bluebonnets are back to back Conference Champions and again see the Sweet 16 Nationally.
